Last month, I received the most incredible opportunity to transform my upcoming novel, Call Me Rumpel. I will be working closely with an incredible genius to transform the characters and narrative style to ensure it is in its best possible state before publishing.

One of my biggest flaws is my impatience, or rather, panic-mode. As soon as I get a fresh idea, my mind is invaded with ridiculous thoughts that if I do not get it published ASAP, someone else will come up with the same idea. I know I’m not alone in this, but it hasn’t done me any favours to rush into a book and forgo important steps. Cutting corners is not an option when it comes to quality work.

Originally, I had aimed for a March/ April release date. However, I want to make sure I do this right and give my readers the best possible version of my work. You deserve to have a quality read. By going through it again, it will also give the novel a better chance at being traditionally published, let alone finding its way to an agent.

As such, I’m going to push back the release date until it is truly ready. The process will take time, but if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. In the meantime, I’ll be working on my other novels (including the sequel to The Beaumont Egalitarian Society), getting the manuscripts ready for the editing stages.

I’m excited to reveal Call Me Rumpel to the world, and I thank you for your patience and encouragement!

A huge thank you to Dan Lyndon for his time and energy… I’ll reveal more as time goes by, but if you’re looking for a writing coach and/ or editor (particularly with help on characterisation), he is the place to go.

What is Call Me Rumpel about?

“There’s something I need to tell you… It’s about Call Me Rumpelstiltskin.”

Wattpad cover (thankfully not the final novel cover).

Seventeen-year-old Mishka Winscott knows all there is to crafting the perfect life. Popular, pretty, smart: she chooses how her peers see her life, hiding the imperfections with a charming smile. She certainly knows how to keep her biggest secret from everyone. But when the school’s biggest bully is murdered and her elusive wish-granting app is hacked, she must decide whether swallowing her pride is worth a trip to jail.

The story is a modern retelling of the Brothers Grimms’ classic fairy tale, set in a small rural town in New South Wales. Filled with twists and turns, discovering who the real Rumpelstiltskin is will keep readers on their toes until the very end.

Genre: Murder mystery
Audience: Young adult (15-21)
Mature themes: Non-explicit mentions of violence and romance
